동국대학교 AI융합대학 석좌교수이자 베스트셀러 『넥스트 한류』 저자인 고삼석 교수가 6월 28일 서울대학교 인문학연구원 인문정보연구소가 주최한 ‘AI 교육과정’ 1기 수료식에 키노트 스피커로 참석했다.  

책에서 한류의 미래를 위해선 AI와 엔터테인먼트·산업·사회의 융합, 인간 중심의 안전성과 윤리 확립, 사회와 인류의 지속가능성을 위한 공동의 노력이 필요하다고 강조하는 그는 책이 말하는 철학과 이 과정의 목적이 일치했다고 판단, '첫 번째 저자 행사'로 이 자리를 택했다고 설명했다.

서울대학교 인문정보연구소(연구소장 정민화)가 주최한 이번 AI교육과정은 서울대 내에서 처음 개설된 프로그램으로, AI의 운영원리와 학술 및 실무영역을 아우르는 커리큘럼으로 구성됐다.

On June 28, Professor Samseog Ko, a distinguished professor at Dongguk University's College of AI Convergence and author of the best-selling book "The Next Korean Wave," participated as a keynote speaker at the first graduation ceremony of the "AI development Course" hosted by the Institute for Humanities and Information Studies at Seoul National University.
In his book, he emphasizes that the future of the Korean Wave requires the convergence of AI with entertainment, industry, and society, the establishment of human-centered safety and ethics, and joint efforts for the sustainability of society and humanity. He explained that he chose this event as the 'first author event' because the philosophy of the book and the purpose of the course were in line.
Hosted by the Humanities and Information Research Institute at Seoul National University, the AI development Course is the first program of its kind at Seoul National University and consists of a curriculum that covers the operating principles of AI and academic and practical areas.

고 교수는 현장에서 “세상에는 두 부류의 사람이 있다. 인공지능을 잘 알고 잘 쓰는 사람과 그렇지 못한 사람”이라며, “지금은 정보화 시대를 넘어 본격적인 AI 시대에 진입했다”고 강조했다. 특히 “서울대 AI 교육과정을 마친 여러분은 AI 시대의 선도자다”라고 강조했다.

그는 “AI가 콘텐츠와 한류를 어떻게 변화시키는지에 주목해왔다”며, “세상은 우리가 생각하는 것보다 훨씬 빠르게 AI 시대에 진입하고 있다”고 말했다. 그는 “2022년 ChatGPT 등장 이후, 세계 최대 IT 전시회 CES에서 AI가 메인 토픽이 되었고, 이제는 모든 산업과 제품에 AI가 스며들었다”고 설명했다.

“AI 기술 및 혁신 경쟁에서 뒤처지면 국가, 기업, 개인 모두 미래를 보장할 수 없다”며, “우리는 AI 시대를 본격적으로 준비해야 한다”고 당부했다.

"Congratulations on being a leader in the AI era"
"There are two kinds of people in the world. Those who know and use artificial intelligence well and those who don't," he said, emphasizing that "we are now beyond the information age and have entered the full-fledged AI era." In particular, he emphasized, "You who have completed the AI education course at Seoul National University are the leaders of the AI era."
"I have been paying attention to how AI is changing content and Hanryu," he said, "and the world is entering the AI era much faster than we think." "Since ChatGPT emerged in 2022, AI has become the main topic at CES, the world's largest IT exhibition, and has now permeated every industry and product," he explained.
"If we fall behind in the race for AI technology and innovation, we cannot secure our future as a nation, a company, or an individual." "We must prepare for the AI era in earnest," he concluded.

융합적 사고의 중요성

K콘텐츠, K팝, K푸드 등 한류는 글로벌 시장을 휩쓸고 있다. 그러나 한류가 정점에 올랐다는 위기감도 있다. 이에 새로운 패러다임과 플랫폼이 필요하다는 지적이 많다.

고 교수는 다음 한류(넥스트한류)를 융합에서 찾는다. AI가 중요한 이유도 여기 있다. 그는 “넥스트 한류는 엔터테인먼트와 테크놀로지, 특히 AI와의 융합에서 한류의 미래를 찾는다”고 말했다. “AI와 산업·경제, 사회·문화의 융합이 급속히 진행되고 있으며, 이제는 AI 대전환(AX)이 최대 현안”이라고 강조했다.

그는 “정부는 ‘AI 세계 3대 강국’을 목표로 하고 있다”며, “AI 융합을 통해 기존 산업을 혁신하고 국가·기업·개인의 경쟁력을 높일 수 있다”고 설명했다.

The importance of convergent thinking
K-content, K-pop, K-food, and more, the Korean Wave is sweeping the global market. However, there is also a sense of crisis that the Korean Wave has reached its peak. Many have pointed out that a new paradigm and platform is needed.
Professor Ko believes that the next Korean Wave (Next Hallyu) will be found in convergence. This is why AI is important. "The next Hallyu finds its future in the convergence of entertainment and technology, especially AI," he said. "The convergence of AI with industry, economy, society, and culture is rapidly progressing, and the AI Axis is now the biggest issue," he emphasized.
"The government is aiming to become one of the top three AI powers in the world," he said, explaining that AI convergence can revolutionize existing industries and increase the competitiveness of countries, companies, and individuals.

사람 중심의 AI 시대를 열자

그러나 AI가 모든 것을 해결할 수 없다. 축사에서 고 교수는 “AI는 그 자체가 목적이 아니며, 전 세계가 AI 기술 경쟁력을 확보하기 위해 막대한 투자를 하고 있다”고 지적했다.

“군사용 AI 개발까지 본격화되면서, 기술 개발 속도와 상업적 이익 경쟁도 치열하다”고 덧붙였다. 그러나 “인간 중심의 안전성 확보와 윤리 규범 정립을 결코 잊어서는 안 된다”며, “AI 교육과정을 마친 여러분이 사람 중심의 AI 시대를 열어가는 주역이 되어 달라”고 당부했다

Ushering in the era of human-centered AI
But AI can't solve everything. "AI is not an end in itself, and the world is investing heavily to secure competitiveness in AI technology," Dr. Koh said in his remarks.
"With the development of AI for military applications in full swing, the pace of technology development and competition for commercial benefits is fierce." "However, we must never forget to ensure human-centered safety and establish ethical standards," he said, adding, "I hope that those who have completed the AI training course will become the main players in opening the era of human-centered AI."

결론: AI시대를 사는 이들 위한 핵심 메시지 '융합' '사람' '상생'

고 교수는 AI교육과정 수료생들에게 세 가지 핵심 메시지를 전달했다.

첫째로 '융합적 사고'의 중요성을 강조했다.

이와 관련 그는 자신의 저서 <넥스트 한류>를 예로 들며 "대한민국의 대표 브랜드가 된 '한류의 미래'를 엔터테인먼트와 테크놀로지의 결합, 즉 엔터테크에서 찾고 있다"고 설명했다. 실제, <넥스트 한류>는 AI시대 한류의 지속가능성을 위한 구체적 방안을 제시한다. 책은 콘텐츠와 기술이 결합한 '엔터테크(EnterTech)'를 미래 성장동력으로 제시하며, 한류의 패러다임 전환을 통한 '함께 만들고 즐기는 한류'를 제안한다.

"AI시대 한류의 미래는 콘텐츠와 기술, 특히 AI와의 융합에 있다"며 "여러분도 교육과정에서 AI와 글쓰기, AI와 쇼폼 제작을 배웠지만, AI와 산업·경제는 물론, AI와 사회·문화의 융합 혹은 결합은 훨씬 빠르게 진행되고 있다"고 말했다.  그는 "이를 위해서는 보다 넓은 융합적 사고가 반드시 필요하다"며 "AI 융합을 통해 기존 산업을 혁신하고, 산업과 시장의 외연을 확장할 수 있으며, 국가와 기업, 개인의 경쟁력도 높일 수 있다"고 강조했다.

둘째로 고 교수는 '사람'의 중요성을 언급했다

"전 세계가 AI 기술 경쟁력을 확보하기 위해 천문학적인 자금을 투자하고 있으며, 산업용을 뛰어넘어 군사용 AI 개발도 본격화되고 있다"며 현 상황을 진단했다. "중국의 DeepSeek 임팩트 이후, 전 세계는 사실상 AI 기술 선점을 위한 무한경쟁에 돌입했다"면서도 "이로 인해 단순한 기술적 문제를 넘어 인간이 통제할 수 없는 치명적 문제를 만들고, 인류의 존립까지 위협할 수 있다는 경고가 나온다"고 우려를 표명했다.

고 교수는 "기술 개발 속도 경쟁이나 상업적 이윤을 무시할 수 없지만, 인간 중심의 안전성 확보와 윤리 규범 정립을 망각해서는 안 된다"고 경고했다.

마지막으로 고 교수는 지속가능성과 상생의 중요성을 강조했다.  

모든 것을 AI가 만들지만 모든 것을 AI가 해결해줄 수 없다는 메시지다. 결국 사람과 사람의 상생이 필수다.

이 메시지는 '한류의 미래'와도 맞닿아있다. <넥스트 한류>에서 고 교수는 한류가 지난 30년 동안 드라마, 팝 등 K-콘텐츠를 기반으로 성장해 전 세계적으로 큰 성공을 거두었지만, 동시에 문화적 차이로 인한 반한류 정서, 콘텐츠의 다양성 부족, 팬덤의 피로도 같은 여러 위협 요인들이 존재한다고 분석했다.

그는 발표에서 "K-팝과 드라마가 일으킨 한류는 한국을 대표하는 브랜드가 되었고, 콘텐츠 수출액은 해마다 최고치를 경신하고 있다"면서도 "그런데도 여전히 한류 정책 및 전략 패러다임은 상대국에 대한 수출, 진출 중심이며 단기 성과에 집중되어 있다"고 비판했다.

고 교수는 "이로 인해 상대국가에서는 반한류 정서가 일어나고 있다"며 "한류가 지속가능하기 위해서는 이런 패러다임을 상대국과의 교류와 협력, 상생으로 바꿔야 한다"고 제안했다. "그래야 국제사회에서 품격 있고, 책임 있는 문화강국, 즉 문화의 힘이 강한 나라가 될 수 있다"고 강조했다.

고 교수는 "AI 영역도 마찬가지"라며 "단순히 산업과 경제 차원에서 'AI 3대 강국'이 아니라, 품격 있고 책임 있는 AI 강국이 되어야 한다"고 말했다. 축사를 마치며 고 교수는 "우리가 함께 만듭시다!"라고 외치며 수료생들과 함께 새로운 AI시대를 열어가자고 다짐했다.

Conclusion: 'Convergence,' 'People,' and 'Win-Win' Key Messages for the AI Era

First, he emphasized the importance of 'convergent thinking'
"The future of the Korean Wave, which has become a representative brand of Korea, is found in the combination of entertainment and technology(entertech)" he explained, using his book The Next Korean Wave as an example.
In fact, "The Next Hallyu" presents concrete measures for the sustainability of the Hallyu in the AI era. The book presents 'EnterTech', a combination of content and technology, as the future growth engine, and proposes a 'Hallyu that is created and enjoyed together' through a paradigm shift in Hallyu.
"The future of Hallyu in the AI era lies in the convergence of content and technology, especially AI," said Dr. Lee. "You have learned about AI and writing, AI and showform production in your curriculum, but the convergence or combination of AI and industry and economy, as well as AI and society and culture, is progressing much faster."
"This requires a broader convergence of thinking," he said, emphasizing that "AI convergence can transform existing industries, expand the periphery of industries and markets, and increase the competitiveness of countries, companies, and individuals."

Secondly, Prof. Koh mentioned the importance of 'people'
"The world is investing astronomical amounts of money to secure AI technology competitiveness, and the development of AI for military use is in full swing beyond industry," he said.
"After the impact of China's DeepSeek, the world has virtually entered an endless race to pre-empt AI technology," he said, adding, "There are warnings that this could lead to catastrophic problems beyond human control and threaten the very existence of humanity."
"While we cannot ignore the race to develop technology or commercial profits, we must not lose sight of ensuring human-centered safety and establishing ethical norms," he warned.

Finally, Prof. Ko emphasized the importance of sustainability and coexistence.
The message is that AI can create everything, but AI cannot solve everything. In the end, human coexistence is essential.
This message is in line with the future of the Korean Wave.  Next Hallyu, Professor Ko analyzed that the Korean Wave has grown over the past 30 years based on K-content, including dramas and pop, and has achieved great success globally, but at the same time, there are many threats, such as anti-Korean sentiment due to cultural differences, lack of diversity in content, and fandom fatigue.
"Hallyu, the Korean Wave of K-pop and dramas, has become a representative brand of Korea, and its content exports are reaching new highs year after year," he said in his presentation, but criticized the paradigm of Hallyu policy and strategy, which is still centered on exporting to other countries and focusing on short-term results.
"This has led to anti-Hallyu sentiment in other countries," Ko said, suggesting that for the Hallyu to be sustainable, the paradigm should be changed to one of exchange, cooperation, and win-win with other countries. "Only then can we become a dignified and responsible cultural powerhouse in the international community, a country with strong cultural power," he emphasized.

"The same is true for AI," Prof. Ko said, "We need to become a dignified and responsible AI power, not just one of the 'three AI powers' in terms of industry and economy." At the end of his congratulatory remarks, Prof. Koh shouted, "Let's make it together!" and vowed to open a new era of AI together with the graduates.

한편, 고삼석 교수는 노무현 정부 청와대에서 방송통신 융합 업무를 총괄했고, 김대중 정부 시절에는 국회에서 문화산업진흥기본법 제정에 참여했다. 현재는 국회엔터테크포럼 상임대표를 맡고 있으며, 대선 과정에서 이재명 대통령 캠프의 글로벌책임강국위원회 산하 K-컬처전략위원회 위원장을 맡기도 했다.

짧은 시간에 무슨 말씀을 드릴 수 있을까 고민을 많이 했습니다. 그 전에 왜 저를 수료식에 초청했을까 생각했습니다. 아마도 제가 최근 출간한 <넥스트 한류>가 베스트셀러가 되고, 그 내용이 오늘 수료식 취지에 부합하기 때문에 초청되지 않았나 생각했습니다. 제가 AI를 주제로 책을 쓴 동기, 그리고 책을 통해 말하고자 했던 메시지 중심으로 축하의 말씀을 드리겠습니다.

I contemplated deeply about what to share with you in this brief time. Before that, I wondered why I was invited to this graduation ceremony. I believe it's probably because my recently published book <Next Hallyu> became a bestseller and its content aligns with the purpose of today's graduation ceremony. I would like to offer my congratulations centered on my motivation for writing a book on AI and the message I wanted to convey through it.

## 첫째, 본격적인 인공지능시대를 대비해야 합니다

## First, we must prepare for the full-fledged artificial intelligence era

제가 주목한 것은 'AI가 세상을 어떻게 변화시키고 있는가', 특히 '콘텐츠와 한류를 어떻게 변화시키고 있는가'입니다. 지금 세상은 우리가 생각하고, 느끼는 것보다 훨씬 빠르게 인공지능시대로 진입하고 있습니다.

2022년 Chat GPT가 등장했고, 세계 최대 규모의 IT전시회인 CES 행사에서 인공지능이 메인 토픽으로 채택된 것은 지난해였습니다. 그런데 불과 1년만에 금년 CES에서는 AI for All, 즉 "AI로 시작해서 AI로 끝났다"고 평가할 정도로 AI가 전 산업과 제품을 관통하는 핵심 테마’가 되었습니다. 실제로 생성형 AI 등 첨단 기술은 현대 사회의 전 분야에 걸쳐 엄청난 영향을 미치며, 혁명적인 변화를 일으키고 있습니다. AI 기술 및 혁신 경쟁에서 뒤쳐진다면 국가도, 기업도, 개인도 미래를 보장할 수 없습니다. 그래서 이제 우리는 인공지능시대를 본격적으로 준비를 해야 합니다.

What I focused on was 'how AI is changing the world,' particularly 'how it is transforming content and Hallyu.' The world is entering the artificial intelligence era much faster than we think and feel. ChatGPT emerged in 2022, and artificial intelligence was adopted as the main topic at CES, the world's largest IT exhibition, just last year.

However, in just one year, this year's CES was evaluated as "starting with AI and ending with AI" - AI for All - to such an extent that AI became the core theme penetrating all industries and products. Indeed, advanced technologies such as generative AI are having tremendous impact across all fields of modern society, causing revolutionary changes. If we fall behind in AI technology and innovation competition, neither nations, companies, nor individuals can guarantee their future. Therefore, we must now begin preparing seriously for the artificial intelligence era.

## 둘째, 융합적 사고입니다

제가 쓴 <넥스트 한류>는 대한민국의 대표 브랜드가 된 '한류의 미래'를 엔터테인먼트와 테크놀로지의 결합, 즉 엔터테크에서 찾고 있습니다. 콘텐츠와 기술, 특히 AI와의 융합입니다. 여러분도 교육과정에서 AI와 글쓰기, AI와 쇼폼 제작을 배웠지만... AI와 산업·경제는 물론, AI와 사회·문화의 융합 혹은 결합은 훨씬 빠르게 진행되고 있습니다. 2000년 전후로 디지털 전환이 화두였다면, 지금은 AI 대전환, 즉 AX(AI Transformation)가 최대 현안입니다. 새로 출범한 이재명정부는 'AI 세계 3대 강국'을 목표로 합니다. AI 원천기술의 경쟁력 확보와 함께, 세계에서 AI를 가장 잘 활용하는 나라, 잘 쓰는 국민을 목표로 하고 있습니다. 이를 위해서는 융합적 사고가 반드시 필요합니다. AI 융합을 통해 기존 산업을 혁신하고, 산업과 시장의 외연을 확장할 수 있습니다. 국가와 기업, 개인의 경쟁력도 높일 수 있습니다.

My book <Next Hallyu> seeks the future of 'Hallyu,' which has become Korea's representative brand, in the combination of entertainment and technology - namely, entertech.

It's the convergence of content and technology, especially AI. While you learned about AI and writing, AI and short-form production in your curriculum... the convergence or combination of AI with industry and economy, as well as AI with society and culture, is progressing much faster. If digital transformation was the buzzword around 2000, now AI transformation, or AX (AI Transformation), is the biggest issue.

The newly launched Lee Jae-myung administration aims to become one of the 'world's top 3 AI powers.' Along with securing competitiveness in AI core technologies, it targets becoming the country that uses AI best in the world, with citizens who use it best.

For this, convergent thinking is absolutely necessary. Through AI convergence, we can innovate existing industries and expand the scope of industries and markets. We can also enhance the competitiveness of nations, companies, and individuals.

## 셋째, 그럼에도 불구하고 가장 중요한 것은 사람입니다

AI는 그 자체로 목적이나 최종 목표가 아닙니다. 전 세계가 AI 기술 경쟁력을 확보하기 위해 천문학적인 자금을 투자하고 있습니다. 산업용을 뛰어넘어, 군사용 AI 개발도 본격화되고 있습니다. 중국의 Deep Seek 임팩트 이후, 전 세계는 사실상

AI 기술 선점을 위한 무한경쟁에 돌입했습니다. 이로 인해 단순한 기술적 문제를 넘어 인간이 통제할 수 없는 치명적 문제를 만들고, 인류의 존립까지 위협할 수 있다는 경고가 나옵니다. 기술 개발 속도 경쟁이나 상업적 이윤을 무시할 수 없지만, 인간 중심의 안전성 확보와 윤리 규범 정립을 망각해서는 안됩니다. AI 교육과정을 마친 여러분들이 사람 중심의 인공지능시대를 열어가는 주역이 되어 주십시오.

AI is not an end or final goal in itself. The entire world is investing astronomical amounts of money to secure AI technological competitiveness. Beyond industrial use, military AI development is also beginning in earnest.

After China's DeepSeek impact, the whole world has essentially entered unlimited competition to preempt AI technology. This raises warnings that it could create fatal problems beyond simple technical issues that humans cannot control, even threatening humanity's existence. While we cannot ignore the speed of technological development competition or commercial profits, we must not forget ensuring human-centered safety and establishing ethical norms. Please become the protagonists who will open a human-centered artificial intelligence era as graduates of the AI education program.

## 마지막으로 우리 사회와 인류의 지속가능성

우리 사회와 인류의 지속가능성, '모두가 함께 잘 사는 세상'을 같이 고민합시다. 제가 쓴 <넥스트 한류>의 핵심 문제의식은 과연 '한류는 앞으로도 지속가능한가?', 지속가능성을 넘어서 국내외에서 '한류의 역할은 무엇인가'입니다. K-팝과 드라마가 일으킨 한류는 한국을 대표하는 브랜드가 되었고, 콘텐츠 수출액은 해마다 최고치를 경신하고 있습니다.

그런데도 여전히 한류 정책 및 전략 패러다임은 상대국에 대한 수출, 진출 중심입니다. 단기 성과에 집중되어 있습니다. 이로 인해 상대국가에서는 반한류 정서가 일어나고 있습니다. 저는 한류가 지속가능하기 위해서는 이런 패러다임을 상대국과의 교류와 협력, 상생으로 바꾸자고 제안했습니다. 그래야 국제사회에서 품격있고, 책임있는 문화강국, 즉 문화의 힘이 강한 나라가 될 수 있습니다. AI 영역도 마찬가지입니다. 단순히 산업과 경제 차원에서 'AI 세계 3대 강국'이 아니라, 세계 속에서 품격있고 책임있는 AI 강국이 되어야 합니다. 우리가 함께 만듭시다!

Let's consider together the sustainability of our society and humanity, 'a world where everyone lives well together.'

The core problem consciousness of my book <Next Hallyu> is whether 'Hallyu will continue to be sustainable in the future?' and beyond sustainability, 'what is Hallyu's role' domestically and internationally. Hallyu, sparked by K-pop and dramas, has become Korea's representative brand, and content export amounts are reaching record highs every year.
