MrBeast, 50억 달러(약 5조 원) 가치로 사업 확장을 위해 수억 달러 투자 유치 추진

유튜브 스타 미스터비스트(MrBeast)가 자신의 비즈니스를 확장하기 위해 기업 가치를 약 50억 달러로 평가받으며 수억 달러 규모의 투자 유치를 추진 중이라고 블룸버그가 보도했다.  50억 달러는 한화로 7조 2,900억 원에 달하는 엄청난 돈이다.

미스터비스트(MrBeast)는 거액의 도전 과제와 경품 이벤트 영상을 업로드해 수억 뷰를 끌어모으는 유튜브 채널로 유명하다. 크리에이터들은 자신들의 영상이 발생시키는 광고 수익을 플랫폼과 공유한다. 비스트의 유튜브 구독자 수는 3억 6,900만 명에 달한다.

유튜브에서 가장 인기 있는 크리에이터로 꼽히는 MrBeast(본명 지미 도널드슨)는 여러 투자 회사와 자산가들과 접촉해 투자를 협의해 왔으며, 아직 논의 초기 단계라 누가 투자할지 또는 목표 밸류에이션에 맞춰 투자가 이뤄질지 확실하지 않다고 한다.

MrBeast Seeks to Raise Hundreds of Millions at a Valuation of About $5 Billion

YouTube star MrBeast is looking to raise a couple hundred million dollars to expand his business in a funding round that would value his company at about $5 billion, according to people familiar with the matter.

The most popular creator on YouTube has spoken with several financial firms and wealthy individuals about investing, said the people, who declined to be identified because the talks are confidential. Talks are still in their early stages and it’s not yet clear who will invest or if they will do so at the target price.

MrBeast는 초콜릿 브랜드 피스터블(Feastables), 스낵 브랜드 런치(Lunchly), 그리고 영상 제작 회사를 포함해 여러 비즈니스를 소유하거나 지분을 보유한 지주회사를 설립하기 위해 자금을 모으고 있다.

블룸버그에 따르면, 이 비즈니스는 수익을 내고 있으며 지난 2024년 매출이 4억 달러(약 5,300억 원)를 넘었다. 그는 패키지 상품과 미디어 비즈니스를 모두 확장하는 데 자금을 투입할 계획이다.

그는 또 프라임 비디오(Prime Video) 오리지널 '비스트 게임스(Beast Games)'를 런칭했다.  

The online star, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, is raising money to fund a holding company that owns all or part of several businesses, including the chocolates brand Feastables, the snack company Lunchly, and his video production company.

The business is profitable and generated more than $400 million in sales last year, said two of the people. He is looking to expand both his packaged goods and media businesses.

MrBeast is best known for his work on YouTube, where he posts videos of large-scale challenges and giveaways that generate hundreds of millions of views. Creators share in the advertising sales that their videos generate.

He also created and starred in a show for Amazon.com Inc.’s Prime Video, which the company said was its most-watched unscripted series ever.

아마존은 이 프로그램이 가장 많이 시청된 예능(unscripted) 시리즈라고 밝혔다.

하지만 수익은 좋지 않았다. 아마존은 첫 시즌 제작에 1억 달러(약 1,300억 원)를 투입했지만, 미스터비스트(MrBeast) 프로그램 제작 비용을 과다 지출해 적자를 봤다고 말한다.

While Amazon committed $100 million to produce the first season, MrBeast said that he lost money on production of the show by overspending on it. “I lost tens of millions of dollars on Beast Games,” he said on the Diary of a CEO podcast. “But it’s about making Season 1 as good as possible.”

비스트는 팟캐스트(Diary of a CEO)에서 "비스트게임스(Beast Games)로 수천만 달러를 잃었다"며 "하지만 시즌 1을 최대한 좋게 만드는 게 중요하다고 생각했다"고 설명했다.  

아마존은 추가 시즌을 제작하기로 합의했지만, 아직 예산 협의가 진행 중이다. 초기 계약은 2개 시즌에 걸쳐 2억 5,000만 달러 이상을 투입하는 것으로 되어 있었다.

미스터비스트는 과거 뉴욕 기반 투자사 알파 웨이브 글로벌(Alpha Wave Global)로부터 투자를 유치한 바 있다. 블룸버그 뉴스는 지난달 도널드슨이 틱톡(TikTok) 인수 제안에 참여하고 있다고 보도했다.

그가 몇 년 전에 창업한 스낵 기업 피스터블(Feastables)은 미국과 캐나다 전역에서 초콜릿 바를 판매하고 있으며, 푸드 딜리버리 사업인 미스터비스트 버거(MrBeast Burger)는 파트너십을 맺은 업체와의 소송 문제에 얽혀 있다.

Amazon has agreed to make more seasons of the show, but is still working out the budget. The original deal called for Amazon to spend more than $250 million across two additional seasons.

MrBeast has raised money in the past, including from the New York-based investment firm Alpha Wave Global. Bloomberg News reported last month that Donaldson was participating in a bid to buy TikTok.

Feastables, the snacks company he started a few years ago, sells chocolate bars across the US and Canada. MrBeast Burger, a food delivery business, has been entangled in litigation with Donaldson’s partner.
