Korea University Launches Korea’s First College of Media & Communication
New Division of Global Entertainment Introduced for International Students
“Enhancing K-Content Competitiveness through Academia-Industry Collaboration”
Korea University has unveiled the nation’s first College of Media & Communication, marking a groundbreaking milestone in Korean higher education.
Building upon a six-decade legacy of excellence in media studies, this newly established college integrates the existing Division of Media and Communication with the newly launched Division of Global Entertainment, specifically designed to develop experts for the rapidly expanding global entertainment industry.
Through this visionary restructuring, Korea University aims to solidify its role as a leader in cutting-edge media education and bolster the global competitiveness of K-content.

A core objective of the College of Media & Communication is to deepen the convergence between media theory and industry practices.
Although the two divisions will conduct separate admissions, they will collaborate through an interdisciplinary curriculum, offering cross-listed courses and cooperative projects that bridge diverse fields. This approach not only maximizes educational synergy but also empowers students with both specialized knowledge and integrative problem-solving skills—qualities essential for success in the ever-evolving digital age.
The college’s expanded international outlook reflects the increasing global interest in Korea University’s media programs. In both 2022 and 2023, for example, the institution admitted 72 international students each year to its media division—matching the number of domestic admissions.
New Division of Global Entertainment
By establishing the Division of Global Entertainment, Korea University underscores its commitment to recruiting and nurturing international talent, thus fostering an intellectual environment where students from around the world collaborate, innovate, and enrich the broader media landscape.

To commemorate this significant step forward, Korea University will hold an official launch ceremony on March 27, 2025, at 2:00 PM. Attendees will include prominent university officials, leading figures in the media industry, as well as distinguished alumni.
Remarks from President Kim Dong-won
During the ceremony, Korea University President Kim Dong-won will outline the broader vision for the new college, emphasizing its role in advancing the University’s commitment to global engagement and practical innovation:
“The College of Media & Communication is not merely a structural reorganization, but a bold leap forward built upon six decades of innovation in media education. The newly launched Global Entertainment Division, in particular, will play a key role in nurturing international talent in response to the rapid expansion of the content industry and evolving media technologies. Under the vision of Global KU—Korea University in the World—the College aims to serve as a bridge between academia and industry, generating global insight and creative leadership.”
Other distinguished guests, including Seung Myung-ho, President of the Korea University Alumni Association, and Yeo Min-soo, President of the College of Media & Communication Alumni Association, will deliver congratulatory messages. Both are expected to share their hopes for how the new college will shape the next generation of media professionals and contribute to the worldwide standing of Korean culture and media.

“Media Connect” Networking Session
Following the official launch ceremony, the College will host a “Media Connect” networking session. Alumni from leading companies across the media, entertainment, and tech sectors—including Naver Webtoon (Korea’s top digital comics platform), Kakao Entertainment (a powerhouse in entertainment and digital media), HYBE (the global music label behind world-renowned K-pop groups), CJ ENM (a major player in film, television, music, and live events), Google Korea (the local subsidiary of the global tech giant), KBS (Korea’s public broadcasting network), SBS (one of Korea’s major terrestrial broadcasters), JoongAng Ilbo, Dong-A Ilbo, Hankook Ilbo (all prominent daily newspapers), Remember (a leading professional networking and recruitment platform), and Yanolja (a fast-growing travel and hospitality technology company)—will engage in candid discussions with current students.
Through these conversations, they will shed light on emerging trends, key skill requirements, and the values needed to flourish in a globalized media environment. By blending theory with real-world insights, this segment of the event exemplifies the college’s commitment to harmonizing academic rigor with professional expertise.
