미국에서 틱톡 서비스가 극적으로 부활했다.

약 12시간 동안 중단되었던 틱톡이 도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령 당선인의 개입으로 다시 사용 가능해졌다. 그러나 장기적인 서비스를 위해선 주주 변경이 불가피한 만큼, 틱톡을 둘러싼 불확실성은 앞으로 당분간 이어질 수 밖에 없다.

서비스 중단과 복구

틱톡은 미국 동부 시간 18일 오후 10시 미국 사용자들에게 서비스를 중단했다. 이는 '틱톡 금지법' 시행에 따른 조치였다. 중국 기업 바이트댄스가 대주주인 틱톡은 미국 기업으로 주주를 변경하지 않으면 미국 내에서 사업을 할 수 없게 됐었다.

TikTok shut down its service to US users at 10 p.m. ET on April 18th. This was in response to the enforcement of the TikTok Ban Act. TikTok, which is majority-owned by Chinese company Bytedance, was unable to do business in the U.S. unless it changed its shareholders to American companies.

바이트댄스는 수정헌법 1조 언론의 자유 등을 내세워 소송을 제기했으나, 대법원은 1월 19일까지 미국 내 틱톡 자산을 미국 기업에 매각하지 않으면 영업을 할 수 없다는 법을 승인했다 이에 18일부터 서비스가 중단됐고 벌금을 우려한 구글과 애플 앱스토어에서도 업데이트가 중단됐다.

.그러나 19일 오전, 트럼프 당선인은 취임 후 행정명령을 통해 틱톡 금지법 시행을 연기하겠다고 발표했다. 이후 몇 시간 만에 미국 사용자들의 틱톡 접근이 복구되기 시작했다.

Bytedance sued, citing First Amendment free speech rights, but the Supreme Court upheld a law that required TikTok to sell its assets in the U.S. to a U.S. company by Jan. 19 or face fines. The service was suspended on Jan. 18, and updates were pulled from the Google and Apple app stores for fear of fines.
On the morning of the 19th, however, President-elect Trump announced that he would delay the implementation of the TikTok ban through an executive order after his inauguration. Within hours, U.S. users began to regain access to TikTok.

트럼프 당선인은 틱톡 구제를 위해 노력하겠다고 밝혔다. 동시에 그는 바이트댄스와 미국 기업 간의 50-50 합작 투자를 제안했다

.현재 틱톡 인수에 관심을 보이는 기업들은 다수다. 프랭크 맥코트 미국 부동산 재벌, AI 검색엔진 퍼플렉서티 등이 포함된다. 일론 머스크(Elon Musk)도 인수 리스트에 올라있다.

맥코트는 미국 버전의 틱톡이 전체 매출의 약 8%, 사용자 기반의 8% 미만이라고 주장하며 바이트댄스 전체 가치에서 차지하는 비중은 극히 일부에 불과하다고 말했다. 틱톡의 미국 자산은 20억 달러에서 100억 달러에 달한다는 평가를 받고 있으며, 현재 바이트댄스의 기업 가치는 300억 달러 이상이다.틱톡 CEO는 20일(미국 시간) 트럼프 당선인의 취임식에 참석할 예정다.

President-elect Trump said he would work to bail out TikTok. At the same time, he proposed a 50-50 joint venture between Bytedance and a U.S. company.

There are currently a number of companies interested in acquiring TikTok. They include American real estate tycoon Frank McCourt and AI search engine Perfectitude. Elon Musk is also on the list.
McCourt said the U.S. version of TikTok represents a tiny fraction of Bytedance's overall value, claiming it accounts for about 8% of its revenue and less than 8% of its user base. TikTok's U.S. assets are valued at $2 billion to $10 billion, while Bytedance is currently valued at more than $30 billion.The TikTok CEO is expected to attend President-elect Trump's inauguration on Jan. 20 (U.S. time).

향후 전망

급한 불은 껐지만 틱톡의 장기적인 미국 내 운영을 위해서는 더 복잡한 해결책이 필요할 것으로 보인다.

의회에서 통과된 법안을 완전히 뒤집기는 어려울 것으로 예상된다. .바이트댄스의 틱톡 매각 여부가 앱의 미래에 중요한 영향을 미칠 것이다. 또 중국 정부의 승인이 필요하다는 점도 주목해야 할 부분이다.

Looking ahead
While the immediate fire has been extinguished, TikTok's long-term operations in the U.S. will likely require a more complex solution.

It will be difficult to completely overturn the legislation passed by Congress. Whether or not .Bytedance sells TikTok will have a significant impact on the app's future, and it's worth noting that the Chinese government will need to approve the deal.

The incident is a reminder of TikTok's popularity and political influence in the United States. TikTok has 170 million users in the United States.  While President-elect Trump's intervention temporarily averted the crisis, there is still uncertainty about TikTok's long-term future in the US.
