인공지능(AI)을 비롯한 첨단 기술과 제품, 그리고 산업의 트렌드를 한눈에 파악할 수 있는 세계 최대 규모의 IT 전시회인 ‘CES 2025’가 7일부터 10일까지 미국 라스베이거스에서 열린다. CES는 글로벌 수준의 관련 기술과 산업의 현황을 확인하고, 다가올 미래를 준비하기 위해서 반드시 살펴봐야 할 중요한 국제행사로 자리를 잡았다. 이 때문에 개막 전부터 CES가 열리는 미국 라스베이거스에 국내외 기업과 언론, 전문가들의 눈과 귀가 집중되었다.

CES를 주최하는 전미소비자기술협회(CTA)는 이번 CES에 전 세계 160개 국가에서 약 4500개 기업이 참가할 것이라고 발표하였다. ‘포춘 글로벌(Fortune Global) 500대 기업’ 중에서 309개 기업이 등록하였다. 참관객은 약 14만명을 예상하고 있다.

코로나 팬데믹 이전 CES 규모를 뛰어넘었다. 참관객 중 60%가 각 기업의 시니어 레벨(Senior-Level)로 경영전략 및 구매 결정 등에 직접 영향을 미칠 수 있는 인사들이다. 국내에서는 역대 최대 규모인 800여 개 기업이 참가하는 것으로 확정되었다. 우리나라는 인구 밀도 대비 두 번째로 많은 기업이 참가하는 국가로 이름을 올렸다.

CES 2025의 주제는 ‘연결하고, 해결하며, 발견하고, 뛰어들자’(Connect, Solve, Discover, Dive In)로 네 개의 키워드는 실생활의 모든 영역에서 인공지능(Artificial Intelligence; AI) 기술이 만들어 내는 변화의 단계를 의미한다. 먼저 연결(Connect)은 AI 기술을 기반으로 기존 산업 간 경계를 허물고, 연결하며 융합하여 ‘새로운 가치’를 창출하는 단계를 의미한다. 해결(Solve)은 AI 기술이 건강, 식량, 에너지, 기후변화 등 인류가 현재 직면한 다양한 문제 해결에 기여하도록 하자는 것이다.

발견(Discover)은 새로운 가능성을 찾는 단계로 기존 제품이나 서비스를 뛰어넘어 전혀 새로운 비즈니스 모델과 시장을 창출하는 데 기술을 적극 활용하는 단계이다. 이러한 단계를 거쳐 수영선수가 물 속으로 몸을 던지는 것과 마찬가지로 “머뭇거리지 말고 AI 시대로 과감하게 뛰어들어라(Dive In), 도전하라”는 의미가 담긴 메시지이다.

CES 2025, the world's largest IT exhibition that showcases the latest technologies, products, and industry trends, including artificial intelligence (AI), will be held in Las Vegas from  7th to 10th Jan 2025 has established itself as an important international event that must be viewed to check the current status of related technologies and industries at the global level and prepare for the future.

For this reason, the eyes and ears of domestic and foreign companies, media, and experts have been focused on Las Vegas, where CES is held, even before the opening.

The Consumer Technology Association (CTA), which organizes CES, announced that approximately 4,500 companies from 160 countries around the world will participate in this year's CES. 309 of the Fortune Global 500 companies have registered.

About 140,000 attendees are expected. This surpasses the size of CES before the pandemic. 60% of the attendees are senior-level executives who can directly influence business strategy and purchasing decisions.

In Korea, more than 800 companies have been confirmed to participate, the largest number ever. Korea is ranked as the country with the second largest number of companies in relation to population density.

The theme of CES 2025 is "Connect, Solve, Discover, Dive In," and the four keywords represent the stages of change that artificial intelligence (AI) technology is creating in all areas of real life.

First, Connect refers to the stage where AI technology is breaking down the boundaries between existing industries, connecting and converging to create "new value". Solve is about enabling AI technologies to contribute to solving various problems facing humanity, such as health, food, energy, and climate change.

Discover is about exploring new possibilities and actively utilizing technology to go beyond existing products or services to create entirely new business models and markets. The message is to "Dive In," to take the plunge into the AI era, just as a swimmer takes the plunge into the water.

CES 2025는 불확실한 국내외 정세 속에서 진행되지만, 기업과 기업인들의 혁신 정신을 통해 지속가능한 발전을 추구할 것으로 기대

CES는 크게 23개의 범주(Topics)로 참가 및 전시 영역을 분류하고 있다. 이 가운데 CTA는 CES 2025의 핵심 기술 키워드로 ▲인공지능, ▲차량 기술과 첨단 모빌리티(Mobility), ▲디지털 헬스(Digital Health) 세 가지를 제시하였다. 또한 행사 전반을 관통하는 키워드로 ▲인간안보(Human Security for All, HS4A)와 지속가능성(Sustainability)을 강조하고 있다.

먼저 CES 2025의 첫 번째 핵심 기술 키워드이자 가장 중요한 기술은 AI이다. CES 2017부터 등장한 AI는 지난해에 이어 금년에도 전시회 전반을 주도하는 핵심 기술로 다양한 첨단 기술과 제품들이 전시되고, 기조연설과 컨퍼런스 등에서 집중 논의될 예정이다. CTA의 브라이언 코미스키(Brian Comiskey) 시니어 디렉터는 “디지털 전환 시대는 끝났다. 우리는 이제 다음 단계로 진화하고 있으며, AI가 기업 운영과 개인의 삶에 깊이 뿌리내리는 새로운 시대가 열렸다”고 선언하였다.

CES 2025 혁신상 부문에 출시된 AI 관련 제품은 전년 대비 49.5% 이상 급증한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 AI 분야 대표적인 글로벌 테크 기업인 엔비디아(NVIDIA)의 젠슨 황(Jensen Huang) CEO가 개막식 기조연설자로 무대에 오르는 것도 AI 기술의 위상이 높아졌음을 상징적으로 보여주는 장면이다. 8년 전 CES에서 AI 기술 구상을 선포했던 젠슨 황은 이번 무대에서는 실생활에 AI를 적용하는 구체적인 사례와 AI 제품을 공개하고, 그것들이 경제와 사회에 미칠 영향을 논의할 예정이다.

삼성과 SK, LG 등 우리나라 대표 기업들도 AI를 핵심 키워드로 이번 행사에 참여하여 자사가 개발한 첨단 기술과 제품 등을 전 세계 참가자들에게 선보인다. 특히 SKT는 금년 북미 시장 진출을 목표로 ‘글로벌향 AI 에이전트’ 에스터(A*, Aster)를 최초 공개한다. ‘에스터’는 단순한 검색이나 질문과 응답을 넘어 사용자의 요청에 대해 스스로 목표와 계획을 세우고 완결적으로 작업을 수행하는 에이전트 AI(Agent AI)를 표방하고 있다.

지난해 CES는 AI 기술이 산업 전 분야에 어떻게 적용될 수 있을지 그것의 ‘기회’ 혹은 ‘가능성’에 주목했다. 반면 올해 CES는 AI 기술이 실제 각 산업 분야에 적용되어 어떤 변화를 일으키고 있는지, 또 앞으로 어떤 변화를 가져올지 등 이미 우리 곁에 ‘도달해 있는 AI의 미래’를 가시적으로 보여주는데 초점을 맞추고 있다.

그만큼 AI 기술 개발 및 확산이 빠른 속도로 진행되고 있다는 것을 의미한다. 최근 제기된 ‘AI 거품론’에도 불구하고 AI 기술은 가전과 IT분야뿐만 아니라, 특히 자동차를 비롯한 모빌리티, 디지털 헬스, 첨단 에너지, 로봇, 콘텐츠 등 거의 모든 산업 분야에 접목되어 혁신을 주도하고 있다. 이제 인류는 자의반 타의반 전면적인 ‘AI 시대’로 한층 더 깊게 들어가고 있다.

CES categorizes its participation and exhibition areas into 23 categories (Topics). Among these, CTA has identified three key technology keywords for CES 2025: Artificial Intelligence, Vehicle Technology and Advanced Mobility, and Digital Health. It also emphasizes ▲Human Security for All (HS4A) and Sustainability as keywords that run through the entire event.

The first and most important technology keyword for CES 2025 is AI. AI, which has been around since CES 2017, will continue to be a key technology driving the entire show this year, with a variety of cutting-edge technologies and products on display and discussed in keynotes and conferences. "The era of digital transformation is over," said Brian Comiskey, Senior Director, CTA. We are now evolving into the next phase, a new era where AI is deeply embedded in the operations of businesses and the lives of individuals," declared Brian Comiskey, Senior Director, CTA.
The number of AI-related products entered into the CES 2025 Innovation Awards category jumped more than 49.5% year-over-year, and the fact that Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, one of the leading global technology companies in AI, will take the stage as the opening night keynote speaker is emblematic of the technology's elevated status. Jensen Huang, who announced his AI technology initiative at CES eight years ago, will present concrete examples of real-world applications of AI, unveil AI products, and discuss the impact they will have on the economy and society.

Samsung, SK, LG, and other leading Korean companies are participating in this year's CES with AI as their core keyword, showcasing their advanced technologies and products to global attendees. Here's a summary of their AI-focused presentations, with a special focus on SK Telecom's Aster.

In particular, SKT will unveil A(Aster), a globally-focused AI agent that aims to enter the North American market for the first time this year. Aster is an agent AI that goes beyond simple searches and questions and answers to set its own goals and plans for user requests and complete tasks.

While last year's CES focused on the "opportunities" or "possibilities" of how AI technology can be applied to all industries, this year's CES is focused on visibly demonstrating the "future of AI" that is already here, such as how AI technology is already being applied to each industry and how it is changing the world, and how it will change the world in the future.

This means that the development and diffusion of AI technology is proceeding at a rapid pace. Despite the recent AI bubble, AI technology is driving innovation not only in consumer electronics and IT, but also in nearly every other industry, including mobility, digital health, advanced energy, robotics, and content, especially in automotive. Now, humanity is moving deeper into the AI era, whether willingly or unwillingly.

두 번째 핵심 기술 키워드는 ‘차량 기술과 첨단 모빌리티’이다. CES의 메인 전시장인 라스베이거스 컨벤션센터(LVCC)의 웨스트홀(West Hall)은 모빌리티 분야의 첨단 제품과 기술을 볼 수 있는 대표적인 곳이다. 이곳에서는 자율주행차, 커넥티드 카(Connected Car)뿐만 아니라 각종 차량용 소프트웨어, 전기차 도심공항, 드론 등을 중심으로 모빌리티 관련 미래 기술의 경연이 펼쳐질 예정이다. 첨단 모빌리티 분야에서 관심은 AI 기술이 자동차 산업에 접목되면서 산업의 경계를 넘어서 사람들의 일상과 도시를 어떻게 변화시킬지에 모아지고 있다. 첨단 모빌리티와 스마트시티(Smart City)의 결합이 대표적인 예이다.

글로벌 컨설팅기업 PWC(2023)에 따르면 전체 모빌리티 시장(하드웨어 및 서비스 포함) 규모는 2020년 사람 이동 기준 국내는 71조원, 글로벌 3,597조원이다.

2030년에는 국내 117조원, 글로벌 7,070조원 수준으로 크게 성장할 것으로 전망되고 있다. 전문가들은 모빌리티 시장의 성장에 전기차 배터리 기술의 발전과 충전 인프라 확충에 더하여 AI와 머신러닝을 활용한 자율주행 기술의 발전이 크게 기여할 것으로 내다보고 있다.

글로벌 자동차 시장에서 자율주행차를 상용화하려는 노력이 계속되는 가운데 여전히 해결해야 할 기술적 과제가 적지 않게 남아 있는 것이 현실이다. 그러나 최근 AI 기술이 활용되면서 자율주행 기술은 빠른 속도로 발전하고 있다.

CES 기조연설 무대에 오르는 구글의 자율주행 자회사 웨이모(Waymo)의 테케드라 마와카나(Tekedra Mawakana) 공동 CEO는 자율주행 기술과 완전 무인 로보택시 서비스의 미래를 소개할 예정이다. 이번 CES에서 웨이모는 차세대 자율주행 시스템과 스마트 시티 통합 솔루션을 소개하고, 자율주행의 새로운 기준을 제시할 것이라고 밝혔다.

국내 기업 중에서는 LG전자가 AI를 활용한 첨단 모빌리티 기술 ‘인캐빈 센싱’(운전자 및 차량 내부 공간 감지) 기술을 공개한다. 운전자가 차량에 탑승하는 순간부터 인캐빈 센싱이 안전벨트 착용 여부를 판단하고, 실시간으로 심박수를 측정하며, 운전 중 갑작스러운 건강 이상으로 발생할 수 있는 대형사고를 예방할 수 있다. 이외에도 스타트업 전시장인 베네시안 캠퍼스(Venetian Campus)에 자리잡은 국내외 모빌리티 관련 스타트업들이 들고나온 혁신적인 기술도 눈여겨 볼만하다.

The second key technology keyword is 'Vehicle Technology and Advanced Mobility'. The West Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC), CES's main exhibition venue, is a prime location to see cutting-edge products and technologies in the mobility sector.

Here, a showcase of future mobility technologies will unfold, centered around autonomous vehicles, connected cars, various automotive software, electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, and drones.

In the advanced mobility field, attention is focused on how AI technology, when integrated into the automotive industry, will transform people's daily lives and cities beyond industry boundaries. The combination of advanced mobility and smart cities is a prime example of this trend.
According to PwC (2023), the total mobility market size (including hardware and services) based on human transportation was 71 trillion won domestically and 3,597 trillion won globally in 2020. It is projected to grow significantly to 117 trillion won domestically and 7,070 trillion won globally by 2030.

Experts anticipate that the growth of the mobility market will be greatly contributed to by advancements in electric vehicle battery technology, expansion of charging infrastructure, and the development of autonomous driving technology utilizing AI and machine learning.
While efforts to commercialize autonomous vehicles in the global automotive market continue, there are still significant technical challenges to be resolved. However, with the recent application of AI technology, autonomous driving technology is advancing rapidly.

Tekedra Mawakana, co-CEO of Waymo, Google's autonomous driving subsidiary, is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech at CES, introducing the future of autonomous driving technology and fully unmanned robotaxi services6. Waymo has announced that it will showcase its next-generation autonomous driving system and smart city integration solutions at this CES, setting new standards for autonomous driving.

Among domestic companies, LG Electronics will unveil its advanced mobility technology 'In-Cabin Sensing' utilizing AI5. This technology can determine whether the driver is wearing a seatbelt from the moment they enter the vehicle, measure real-time heart rate, and prevent major accidents that could occur due to sudden health issues while driving.

Additionally, innovative technologies from domestic and international mobility-related startups located in the Venetian Campus, the startup exhibition area, are worth noting

세 번째 핵심 기술 키워드는 ‘디지털 헬스’이다. 코로나 팬데믹을 거친 후 예년의 절반규모로 개최된 CES 2022에서 주요 키워드로 처음 등장한 이래 디지털 헬스 분야는 양적, 질적으로 큰 성장을 해왔다.

단적인 예로 CTA가 발표한 CES 2025 혁신상 1차 결과에 따르면 수상 기업 292곳 가운데 디지털 헬스 범주에 속한 기업(43개)이 가장 많은 것으로 나타났다.

이에 비해 첫 번째 핵심 기술 키워드로 선정된 AI 범주에 속한 기업의 수는 38개사로 2위에 그쳤다. CTA는 기술 분야 핵심 테마 중 하나로 ‘장수’를 꼽았으며, 기술 발전으로 인해 인간의 수명이 연장되고 보다 건강한 삶을 살 수 있게 되었다고 강조하였다.

디지털 헬스 분야에서의 주된 관심도 AI 기술과 융합을 통한 혁신이다. 이번 CES 2025에서는 디지털 헬스 분야에 AI와 IoT 기술이 접목되면서 ‘예측형 헬스케어’와 진단 및 치료의 ‘초개인화’(Hyper-Personalization)로 디지털 헬스의 패러다임이 전환되고 있는 트렌드를 확인할 수 있을 것이다.

예측형 헬스케어는 질병이 발생한 후에 치료하기보다는 발병 전에 예방하는 것을 목표로 한다. AI와 IoT 같은 첨단 기술을 활용할 경우 하루 24시간, 연중 이용자의 건강 모니터링이 가능해지면서 질병 예방은 물론, 질병이 발생하더라도 조기에 치료함으로써 의료비를 획기적으로 절감할 수 있게 된다. 이러한 예측형 헬스케어를 기반으로 개인별 특성을 고려한 초정밀 의료 서비스, 즉 의료 서비스의 ‘초개인화’가 실현될 수 있다.

The third key tech keyword is "Digital Health." Since its first appearance as a major keyword at CES 2022, which was held at half its usual scale following the COVID-19 pandemic, the digital health sector has experienced significant quantitative and qualitative growth.

A prime example is the first round of CES 2025 Innovation Awards announced by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA). Among the 292 winning companies, the largest number (43) belonged to the digital health category. In contrast, the number of companies in the AI category, selected as the first key tech keyword, stood at 38, ranking second. The CTA highlighted "longevity" as one of the core themes in the technology sector, emphasizing that technological advancements have extended human lifespans and enabled healthier living.

The main focus in the digital health field is innovation through convergence with AI technology. At CES 2025, we can expect to see a paradigm shift in digital health towards "predictive healthcare" and "hyper-personalization" of diagnosis and treatment, driven by the integration of AI and IoT technologies in the digital health sector.

Predictive healthcare aims to prevent diseases before they occur, rather than treating them after onset. Utilizing advanced technologies such as AI and IoT allows for 24/7 monitoring of users' health, enabling not only disease prevention but also early treatment in case of illness, leading to significant reductions in medical costs. Based on this predictive healthcare, "hyper-personalization" of medical services, or ultra-precise medical services tailored to individual characteristics, can be realized.

마지막으로 CES 2025의 기술 및 산업 트렌드가 출범을 앞둔 ‘2기 트럼프정부’의 ICT 정책과 향후 어떻게 조응할 것인가도 중요한 관심 대상이다.

지난해 11월 도널드 트럼프 후보가 대통령선거에서 당선된 직후 게리 샤피로(Gary Shapiro) CTA 회장은 “트럼프 2기 행정부의 디지털 정책, STEM(과학·기술·공학·수학) 교육 강화 및 인력 양성 등 정책 추진에 협력하겠다”는 입장을 밝히면서 “CTA는 트럼프 1기 집권 기간 동안 자율주행차, AI, 원격진료 등 핵심 혁신 분야에서 긴밀하게 협력하였다”고 강조하였다.

게리 샤피로 CEO가 트럼프 후보 당선에 입장을 밝힌 것은 트럼프 후보의 대선 공약, 즉 2기 트럼프정부의 정책이 AI 부문을 비롯한 첨단 기술과 산업에 미치는 영향이 그만큼 막강하다는 것을 반증한다. 선거운동 기간 동안 MAGA(Make America Great Again)를 핵심 슬로건으로 내세웠던 트럼프 후보의 당선으로 “트럼프정부 2기는 미국 우선주의(America First)를 넘어 미국 유일주의(America Only)를 표방할 것”이라는 걱정도 나오고 있다.

먼저 AI 분야는 바이든정부의 AI 관련 행정명령이 철회되고 AI 정책 방향도 공공 감독에서 규제 완화로 전환될 것으로 예상된다.

. 또한 선거운동 기간 동안 바이든 행정부의 AI 행정명령을 철회하겠다는 입장을 일관되게 밝혔다. 미국 워싱턴 DC에 본사를 둔 중도 우파 싱크탱크인 R스트리트연구소가 발표한 리포트에 따르면 “2기 트럼프정부는 AI 부문에 대한 행정부의 규제 과잉을 완화하고 중국의 AI 기술 발전에 대응하는 정책에 중점을 둘 것”이라고 예측하였다.

2기 트럼프정부의 공격적인 AI 정책 추진으로 인해 미국 주도 AI 기술 발전과 산업 전 분야로의 확산은 상당히 빠른 속도로 진행될 것이다. 반면, CES의 주요 테마인 인간안보와 국가안보를 위협할 수 있는 AI 기술 개발과 이용에 대한 정부와 사회 규제 논의, 그리고 한층 강화된 기술 패권주의로 인해 AI 기술 분야의 국제 교류와 협력은 크게 약화될 가능성이 높다. 또한 개인정보를 희생하면서 AI 기술 개발에 박차를 가할 것이라는 우려도 제기되고 있다.

다음으로 트럼프 2기 정부에서는 자율주행을 중심으로 모빌리티 분야의 규제 완화가 예상된다.

미국 정부는 현재 자동차 제조사가 1년에 배치할 수 있는 완전자율주행 시범 차량을 2,500대로 제한하고 있는데, 2기 트럼프정부에서는 이 규제가 먼저 풀릴 것으로 예상된다.

무엇보다 일론 머스크(Elon Musk) 테슬라 CEO가 트럼프 선거캠프에 막대한 선거자금을 기부하면서 일약 트럼프 당선인의 최측근이자 차기 정부의 정부효율부(Department of Government Efficiency) 수장으로 내정됨에 따라서 자율주행차 관련 규제 완화가 더욱 속도를 낼 것으로 보인다.

디지털 헬스케어 정책의 변화도 예상된다.

1기 트럼프정부는 환자 최우선(Patients First)과 헬스케어의 통제권을 환자에게 부여하는 정책 기조를 표방하였다. 정부의 역할은 의료 공급자와 보험자가 비용과 서비스 질을 기반으로 자유롭게 경쟁하는 시장을 조성하는데 주력하였다.

무엇보다 트럼프 당선인은 미국의 보편적 건강보험제도인 ‘오바마 케어 폐지’를 대선 공약으로 제시함으로써 큰 변화를 예고하였다. 트럼프정부 2기는 예산 절감과 소비자 선택의 폭을 넓히기 위해 시장 중심의 의료서비스를 강조하고, 관련 시스템을 정비해 나갈 것으로 보인다. 이에 따라서 의료 접근권 보장과 의료비 절감을 목표로 디지털 헬스케어에 대한 수요가 더욱 증가할 것이라는 낙관적 전망이 주를 이룬다.

특히 2기 트럼프정부가 AI 분야의 대폭적인 규제 완화를 추진하고 민간의 자율성을 보장할 것으로 예상되는 가운데 AI 기술을 활용한 진단 및 치료 솔루션 등이 혁신 기술로 인정받으면서 의료계의 근본적인 변화를 이끌 것으로 예상된다. 또한 AI를 활용한 신약 개발이나 개인 맞춤형 디지털 헬스케어 분야도 더욱 활기를 띨 것으로 예측할 수 있다.

Last but not least, how the technology and industry trends at CES 2025 will align with the ICT policies of the incoming "second Trump administration" is also a major concern.

Shortly after Donald Trump won the presidential election last November, CTA President and CEO Gary Shapiro announced that the organization would "work with the second Trump administration to advance policies such as digital policy, strengthening STEM education and workforce development," emphasizing that "CTA worked closely with Trump during his first term on key innovation areas such as autonomous vehicles, AI and telemedicine."

CEO Gary Shapiro's endorsement of Mr. Trump's candidacy underscores the power of Mr. Trump's campaign promises and the impact his policies in the second term will have on advanced technologies and industries, including the AI sector. With the election of Mr. Trump, who touted MAGA (Make America Great Again) as a key slogan during the campaign, there are worries that the second Trump administration will go beyond America First and emphasize America Only.

In the AI field, the Biden administration's AI-related executive orders are expected to be rescinded and AI policy direction is expected to shift from public oversight to deregulation.

그런데 이는 MAGA를 전면에 내세운 트럼프 당선인의 ‘강화된 미국 우선주의’와 상호 양립하기가 어려운 아젠다들이다. 물론 민간 기업 차원에서 인간안보와 지속가능성 아젠다는 여전히 유효하고, 중요한 전략으로 자리를 잡아가고 있다. 그러나 정부의 정책 주도권은 크게 약화하거나 정책이 실종될 수 있고, 이에 따라 기업 등 민간 부문에 대한 정부 지원 또한 줄어들 수밖에 없을 것이다.

Human security and sustainability revolve around a "technology ecosystem" that requires solidarity and cooperation between companies and nations on a global scale, so that all members can thrive together.

However, these agendas are difficult to reconcile with President-elect Trump's "stronger America First" agenda, which has put MAGA at the forefront.

Of course, at the private sector level, the human security and sustainability agenda remains a valid and important strategy. However, government policy leadership could be significantly weakened or even disappear, and government support for the private sector, including businesses, will inevitably decline.
