Even the age of AI, high-end quality human job is hard to Replace yet

비디오 생성AI가 고도화된 2024년 이후 시각 효과(VFX)와 애니메이션 등 영상 산업을 혁신하는 AI에 대한 할리우드의 기대감이 커지고 있다. AI가 비용이 많이 들고 노동 집약적인 것으로 악명 높은 VFX 프로세스에 혁신을 가져올 것으로 기대됐었기 때문이다.

콘텐츠 제작비 상승폭이 제한된 상황에서 AI의 등장은 희소식일 수도 있다.  벤 애플렉(Ben Affleck), 제프리 카첸버그(Jeffrey Katzenberg) 등 유명 인사들도 AI 도입으로 VFX 인력의 90%가 사라질 것이라는 극단적 선언도 서슴치 않았다.

그러나 현실은 보다 차분하다.

실제 제작에 미치는 영향, 특히 하이엔드 장편 영화와 프리미엄 TV에 미치는 영향은 보다 제한적이다.

버라이어티가 현장 전문가들을 대상으로 조사한 결과, 할리우드 대형 VFX 스튜디오의 고용 상황은 의외로  안정적이었다.  10대 스튜디오의 VFX 인력 고용은 WGA 파업 직전인 2023년 4월 정점을 찍었고, 이후 9% 감소하는 데 그쳤다. 생성 AI가 아직 고도화된 창작 작업을 대체하긴 시기상조라는 이야기다.

AI 확산으로 인한 아티스트의 반발도 이어지고 있다. 아직은 아니지만 언젠가는 인간을 대체할 수 있다는 우려다.

However, the reality is more subdued.

The impact on actual production, especially high-end feature films and premium TV, is more limited.

A survey of on-site experts by Variety found that the employment situation at major Hollywood VFX studios was surprisingly stable. The hiring of VFX personnel at the top 10 studios peaked in April 2023, just before the WGA strike, and has since only fallen by 9%.
