11. Hallow Road

밤늦게 걸려온 딸(메건 맥도넬)의 전화 한 통. 교통사고를 냈고, 지금 위험에 처해 있다는 이야기다. 부모(로자먼드 파이크, 매튜 리스)는 모든 것을 제쳐두고 차를 몰고 딸을 찾아 나선다. 영화 대부분이 차량 안에서 진행되는데, 한정된 공간이 빚어내는 긴장감이 압권이라는 후문. 「Under the Shadow」로 영국 아카데미(BAFTA)를 수상했던 바박 안바리 감독이 연출했고, 차기작으로는 「클로버필드」 시리즈 후속편이 예정되어 있어 더욱 관심이 모인다.

12. Happy Face

14. Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie

감독·출연 맷 존슨 & 제이 맥캐롤 | 사진 자레드 라브(Jared Raab)

2017~2018년 방영됐던 캐나다의 페이크 다큐 코미디 시리즈 「Nirvanna the Band the Show」를 기반으로 한 극장판. 시리즈에서도 맷 존슨과 제이 맥캐롤이 음악가 ‘맷’과 ‘제이’를 연기했으며, 단 한 곡도 써본 적 없는 이들이 토론토의 리볼리(Rivoli) 공연장 무대에 서기 위해 좌충우돌하는 모습이 웃음을 자아냈다. 본 작품에서는 시간여행이라는 소재가 추가돼 한층 기발한 스토리를 펼쳐낼 예정이다. 지난해 「블랙베리」로 주목받았던 맷 존슨이 이번에도 관객들에게 색다른 재미를 선사할 것으로 기대된다.

15. #1 Happy Family USA

기획 라미 유세프 | 제작·배급 아마존 프라임 비디오

세스 맥팔레인, 매트 그로닝이 미국 가정생활을 그린 성인 애니메이션의 대표주자였다면, 이제 라미 유세프도 그 대열에 합류한다. 본 작품은 ‘하씨네(Hussein)’라는 평범하고도 명랑한 무슬림 가정이 9·11 테러 이후 겪게 되는 일들을 코믹하게 풀어낸다. 라미 유세프 특유의 블랙 코미디가 2D 애니메이션으로 표현될 예정. 3년 전에 기획이 확정되었으나, 최근 가자 지구와 관련한 분쟁으로 인해 다시 한번 미국 내 이슬람 혐오 이슈가 부각된 시점이라 더욱 의미 있는 작품이 될 것으로 보인다.

16. O’Dessa

감독 제레미 재스퍼 | 출연 세이디 싱크, 머레이 바틀렛, 레지나 홀, 켈빈 해리슨 주니어 | 배급 서치라이트

「Patti Cake$」 이후 감독 제레미 재스퍼가 내놓는 두 번째 장편. 네온빛이 번쩍이는 포스트 아포칼립스 세계관을 무대로 한 록 오페라로, 주인공은 음악적 재능을 지닌 농장 소녀 ‘오데사’(세이디 싱크)다. 그녀는 독재자 플루토노비치(머레이 바틀렛)와 오른팔 네온 디온(레지나 홀)에 맞서 사랑하는 사람 ‘유리 데르비시’(켈빈 해리슨 주니어)를 구해야 한다. 재스퍼 감독과 제이슨 비닉이 16곡을 직접 작곡했으며, 3월 20일 SXSW 프리미어 직후 훌루를 통해 공개될 예정이다.

17. The Rivals of Amziah King
