"South Korea's keen interest in bio, digital health, and quantum technology"

Pen Ventures, a global accelerator that helps Korean startups go global, hosted the 2025 Corporate Innovation Summit (PEN-CIS) on January 10 at Plug and Play in Silicon Valley, California, USA. The event is held annually in Seoul, Korea and Silicon Valley to support networking among global CVCs, VCs, and startups. The event was sponsored by the Korean Ministry of SMEs and Startups.

This year's event (2025) was highlighted by reverse pitches from CVC Corporate Venture Capital, including Asus, ANA, and Acario Innovation, as well as on-site presentations from various K-startups supported by the DIPS 1000+ program, including Ringle English, Huject, Medicosbiotech, and INTERX.

he DIPS 100+ program, part of the 'Super Gap Project' organized by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, aims to discover and support more than 1,000 deep-tech startups in 10 new industries.

The 10 new industries (deep tech) designated by MSS are system semiconductor, bio/health, future mobility, eco/energy, robotics, AI/big data, cybersecurity/network, aerospace/marine, next-generation nuclear power, and quantum technology. In addition, a general startup pitching session was also held.

In addition, eight VCs including Riverwood Capital, Third Prime, and others also conducted Reverse Pitch at the Innovation Summit. A reverse pitch is an event where a large company or corporation pitches a business challenge, need, or opportunity to a small business, startup, or entrepreneur.

At the 2025 event, more than 300 entrepreneurs, government officials, and investors filled the room. There were more than 60 exhibiting companies. Many investors traveled to Silicon Valley after attending CES 2025, which took place from July 7-10. U.S. states such as Utah, New Jersey, and Portland also attended the event and showed a lot of interest in Korean companies. In particular, Kim Sung sup, Vice Minister of SMEs and Startups, delivered a congratulatory speech for Korean startups preparing to go global and VCs and CVCs interested in investing in Korean companies.

Vice Minister Kim Sung-sup said, "We are operating a startup hub in Seoul that specializes in the field of DeepTech. The hub provides innovation platforms and investment planning for innovative young talents, global companies, and overseas venture firms from around the world," said Kim. "The deep-tech companies presenting their IR pitches today are representative startups supported and guaranteed by the Korean government."

한국 스타트업의 글로벌 진출을 지원하는 글로벌 액셀러레이터 펜벤처스(Pen Ventures)는 지난 1월 10일 미국 캘리포니아 실리콘밸리 플러그앤플레이(Plug and Play)에서 2025 Corporate Innovation Summit (PEN-CIS)를 개최했다. 이 행사는 매년 한국 서울과 실리콘밸리에서 글로벌 CVC, VC, 스타트업간의 네트워킹을 지원하는 이벤트다. 한국 중소벤처기업부는 이 행사를 후원했다.

올해(2025년)는 아수스 ,ANA, 아카리오 이노베이션 등  기업형 벤처 캐피털(CVC Corporate Venture Capital)의 리버스 피칭을 시작으로 링글 영어, 휴젝트(Huject),메디코스바이오테크(Medicosbiotech), 인터엑스(INTERX) 등 딥스1000+(DIPS 1000+) 프로그램에 지원 받은 다양한 K스타트업의 현장 발표에서 집중됐다.

중소벤처기업부와 창업진흥원이 주관하는 '초격차 프로젝트'의 일환인 딥스 100+프로그램은 10대 신산업 분야에서 1,000개 이상의 딥테크 스타트업을 발굴하고 지원하는 것을 목표로 한다. 중소벤처기업부가 지정한 10대 신산업(딥테크)는 시스템반도체,바이오/헬스, 미래 모빌리티, 친환경/에너지, 로봇, AI/빅데이터,사이버보안/네트워크, 항공우주/해양, 차세대 원전, 양자기술 등이다. 이외 일반 스타트업 피칭 세션도 진행됐다.

아울러 리버우드캐피털(Riverwood Capital), 써드 프라임(Third Prime)을 비롯한 8개 벤처캐피털(VC)도 이노베이션 서밋에서 리버스 피치(Reverse Pitch)를 진행했다. 리버스 피치는 대기업이나 기업이 소규모 기업, 스타트업 또는 창업가에게 비즈니스 과제, 요구 사항 또는 기회를 소개하는 이벤트다.

2025년 행사에서는 보다 많은 기업인, 정부 관계자, 투자자들이 300여 명이 행사장을 채웠다. 참가 기업만 60개가 넘었다. 7일부터 10일까지 열린 CES2025행사에 참여한 뒤 실리콘밸리를 찾은 투자자들도 많았다. 유타(Utah), 뉴저지(New Jersey), 포틀랜드(Portland) 등 미국 주정부에도 참석해 한국 기업들에게 많은 관심을 보였다. 특히, 중소벤처 기업부 김성섭 차관이 직접 참석해 글로벌 진출을 준비하는 한국 스타트업과 한국 기업 투자에 관심이 있는 VC, CVC 등을 위한 축사를 진행했다.

김성섭 차관은 “디베크 분야에 특화된 서울의 스타트업 허브를 운영 중이다. 이 허브는 전세계 혁신적인 젊은 인재들과 글로벌 기업, 해외 벤처 기업들에게 혁신 플랫폼과 투자 기획을 제공하고 있다”며 “오늘 기업 IR 피치를 발표하는 딥테크 기업들은 한국 정부가 지원하고 보증하는 대표적인 스타트업”이라고 강조했다.
